New movie trailers, you HAVE to see…

Whether you like them or not, both of these filmmaker’s movies are clearly the by-product of their creators. So, it is with the premieres of the trailers for The Coen Brothers’ new movie A SERIOUS MAN; and Wes Anderson’s new movie THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX.

So first, is the trailer for A SERIOUS MAN, it’s the story of a man whose life starts to fall apart when his wife asks for a divorce, his shlub of a brother won’t move out and he seemingly can’t get a meeting with his “busy” rabbi. The trailer is put together as a montage/music video of sorts where it’s comprised of a series of noises (the main character’s head being bounced off a chalkboard, a secretary hacking and coughing and a rabbi moaning), peppered with some dialogue and some interesting shots from the movie.

It looks very unorthodox (no pun intended), and after following BURN AFTER READING, which was it’s own sort of off-kilter comedy, I’m wondering which Coen’s we’re getting here. Looks like the light and funny ones, more than the dramatic and noir-ish ones. The movie is scheduled for release on October 2. And for the full glory, check it out in High Definition on Apple.com: http://www.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/aseriousman/

Secondly, is Wes Anderson’s animated (in a sort of puppet, stop-motion style) adaptation of sorts of Roald Dahl’s story, THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX. The movie features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray and Owen Wilson – along with plenty others, I’m sure. The story – of which I’ve not read the book – seems to be about a group of animals who are one day threatened with their homes being destroyed by some local farmers.

The movie seems to combine Anderson’s former (and my favorite’s of his movies) RUSHMORE and THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, and the old style Bass/Rankin puppet animations from the 60’s, like the various Christmas related movie (RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER and JACK FROST) and the THUNDERBOLTS and SILVERHAWKS tv shows. I think that the animation looks amazing – in an old-fashioned, yet lively fashion – and the story looks great. This movie should be released this Thanksgiving, and the trailer is also available to see in High Definition on Yahoo.com: http://movies.yahoo.com/premieres/14824491/standardformat
